With COVID-19 cases, including those of the Omicron variant, going up in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday announced that night curfew would be imposed across the State between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on working days from January 6. Essential services would be exempted. He also announced a “complete lockdown” on January 9.

The Sunday lockdown will begin from January 9 and non-essential activities will be completely banned. However, the state government has permitted restaurants to operate food delivery services on the lockdown days between 7am and 10pm.

Tamil Nadu Lockdown Rules

According to the new rules, all shops, hotels and other establishments will not be allowed during the night curfew and Sunday lockdown. However, restaurants are allowed the option of takeaway from 7 am to 10 pm.

1. Metro services will not function on Sundays and during the night curfew.

2. Citizens will be allowed to travel during 10 pm and 5 am on all days but they will have to show proof of travel.

3. Beaches will be open to the public but only for walking.

4. Public would not be allowed in all places of worship on three days -Fridays, Saturday and Sunday- a week.

5. The present bar for social, cultural and political congregations would continue to be in place.

Tamil Nadu Lockdown Update

The state government has also announced a night curfew between 10 am and 5 pm – starting Thursday – to curb the rising number of Covid-19 cases.

As a result, the mega-vaccine camps being held across Tamil Nadu on Sunday will be shifted to Saturday. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has urged people to get fully vaccinated and follow Covid-19 protocols amid rising infection rates.
